The Work of Emi Hemeyer There is exquisiteness in what is aged, flawed or dilapidated. A simple history is retained in objects as well as man-made installations such as sidewalks, buildings, and structures. Through the records that time and weather leave behind. These surface marks are scribbled and drawn by erosion, growth, decay, rot and rust. Reminiscent of our transient nature, as our bodies as well as the material world is constantly in the process of returning to their origins. By embracing these objects and processes we give them life for another cycle to begin.
They are rusted remains, small organisms and larvae decomposing in handmade
paper. They are the discarded objects found in junkyards and the side of highways.
They are old structures, the skeletons of technology manifested in urban decay.
They are the windows and walls that stood through a world war. Through these
everyday items I find my inspiration and with them I create. |
